Dave Porter: A Heart for Orphans

Dave Porter – currently with Red Rock International Guinea – has a lot of interest in improving mankind.  The rough diamond exporter coaches a high school wrestling team, and spends lots of time with his family and church.  However, his charitable efforts with orphanages in Africa might be the largest scale example of Porter’s kind and loving heart.

When he isn’t busy selling diamonds all over the world, Dave Porter is most likely to be found hard at work, improving orphanages in Africa.  Though Porter’s work is based in his home state of Utah, he has to travel to West Africa for business on occasion.  Sometimes these trips will be extended so that he can look in on the results of his charitable work involving orphanages.

Dave Porter thinks that his interest in African orphanages first developed when he got into the diamond exporting business.  He was on a trip to West Africa (Porter’s a licensed exporter in Liberia and Guinea) when he began to notice the poor quality of many of the country’s orphanages.

Also, he noticed how many orphanages there were in Africa.  Because so many members of the adult population die early because of HIV/AIDS-related causes, countless children are left orphaned. Not only are the orphanages that are currently in existence in a run-down state, but also there’s a dire need for many more orphanages.

Eager to help make a difference, Dave Porter began donating his time and money to help improve conditions in Africa.  He hopes that by the time his life’s work is done there will be a noticeable change in the number and quality of orphanages on the continent.

When he isn’t working on the orphanage situation, Dave Porter is most likely to be found hard at work with Red Rock International Guinea, a company he’s closely connected with in the importing and exporting business.
