High School Wrestling Coach: Dave Porter

Dave Porter, the rough diamond exporter, is an avid sports fan.  In his college years, Porter was an All Conference football player.  He was even the recipient of an All American honorable mention award for his performance at Southern Utah University (1991 season).

These days, his work with Red Rock International Guinea keeps him quite busy.  Overseeing the distribution and shipping of rough diamonds in West Africa, Dave Porter has a lot on his plate.  However, he still looks back fondly on his childhood years and college years that were devoted to athletics.

Believing that sports are a major important part of teenage life, Dave Porter made the decision to return to high school as a wrestling coach.  Porter has also coached college football at Snow College and at his alma mater (Southern Utah University).

As a high school wrestling coach, Porter has had the pleasure of learning more about a sport and about the lives of his athletes.  Coaching isn’t just about instruction for Dave Porter.  It’s also just as much about enriching the life of someone else.

At the end of the day, Dave Porter believes he’s not just making better wrestlers; he’s shaping better people.  For the importer/exporter, this is far more important.  As a family man and dedicated church member, Dave Porter is very interested in improving the lives of others.  He’s even involved with an orphanage in Africa!

However, Porter has found that coaching high school wrestling is one of the most effective ways that he can make a difference in the world.  Though business is getting busy, Dave Porter hopes that he can continue coaching high school wrestling.  He’s found that it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience.  Plus, he likes being back in the athletic arena again!
